Alberto Bocini

Alberto Bocini is a Professor of Double Bass at the HEM-Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva. He is also the principal double bass of the National Orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia (Rome) and of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentina.

As a soloist, he has played with many ensembles, including the orchestra of the Masimo Theater in Palermo, I Solisti Veneti and the Orchester de Rome and Lazio. In chamber music, Alberto Bocini has played with Yuri Bashmet, Vadim Repin, Patrick Gallois, Natalia Gutman and Eric Ruske.

He has played at the Newport Music Festival eleven times and performed widely in Europe and also in the United States, Canada, South America and Japan. He has recorded for Nippon/Denon and Velut Luna.

Alberto Bocini played the guitar before studying the double bass with Alfredo Brandi and Franco Petracchi at the Conservatory Cherubini of Florence. He has won numerous competitions, including first prize at the Valentino Bucchi competition, first prize at the Torneo Internazionale della Musica and second prize at the Nicanor Zabaleta string competition.

Since 2004 Alberto Bocini has been a member of the Bass Gang, a quartet of double basses with an extremely heterogeneous repertoire and which has toured in Japan and Korea.

An eclectic musician, Alberto Bocini has also recorded for Denon Bravissimo a concerto for double bass and strings by Ennio Morricone and also dedicated a record to the music of the English rock group Genesis, with a trio named After Genesis.
