This year we are holding the Summer Bass Club Courses in the intimate and inspiring surroundings of the Yehudi Menuhin School, set in a convenient rural location in Surrey.

The school is conveniently placed between Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

The atmosphere is international, collegiate and exciting. The Yehudi Menuhin School is a fantastic setting for a bass course, with plenty of space to work and study, along with excellent accommodation and food.

International students may ask for help with basses.

Junior Course

This course nurtures the young player within an environment of excellent technical training, concentration and music making. Music making and learning will be fun as well as demanding.

Main Course

A masterclass with Jan Alm and Caroline Emery kicks off this course of technique classes, quartets and ensemble work. There are lots of performance opportunities and plenty of inspirational advice to improve and build confidence. By the end of the week you will be whizzing around the bass. To be able to cope with this pathway some basic two octave scales need to be comfortable with good posture and bow control. Thumb position will be introduced.

There will be progressive technique classes, masterclasses and performance classes. Ability to play in thumb position with some three octave scales is expected. Advanced Courses

Upper Advanced Course

It is an enormous pleasure to welcome back David Allen Moore and we are fortunate to be able to add Alberto Bocini and Charles DeRamus to the Bass Club team.

Students will benefit from progressive technique sessions and small tutorial masterclasses.

There are also larger masterclasses, performance classes, chamber music, lessons and orchestral repertoire sessions.

Advanced Course

This course caters for bassists who are at least Grade 8 standard and who show serious promise on the instrument. There will be progressive technique classes and the timetable will mirror the Upper Advanced course.

Chamber music is an important focus of the week.

It will be expected that you come in good shape and attend the full course. Early booking is advisable.
