Venue: St Catherine's School, Bramley

This year's course will be held at an exciting new venue, St Catherine's School, Bramley, Surrey with spacious facilities and attractive grounds.

The atmosphere is international, collegiate and exciting. St Catherine's School is a fantastic setting for a bass course, with plenty of space to work and study, along with excellent accommodation and food.

St Catherine's is conveniently located three miles south of Guildford and the A3. There is easy and frequent rail access from Waterloo (central London) and trains from Wimbledon and Weybridge. The school is also conveniently placed between Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

The fees for each course include accommodation, all meals and tuition.

End of Course Concerts

There are concerts to which family and friends of students are invited on the final afternoon of Saturday 25 August. The concert by students on the Junior Course will start at 1.30pm and the main concert will start at 2.30pm.

All courses finish at 4.00pm on Saturday 25 August. International students flying from the UK the same day should book evening flights.

Advanced courses

Registration for the Advanced courses is 9.00-10.00am on Monday 20 August. If required, students for these courses may be accommodated on the night of Sunday 19 August at St Catherine's School. Please contact the Bass Club for details.

International students on the Advanced courses may also ask for help on Sunday 19th August to transport their basses from Heathrow or Gatwick airports.

Junior Course

This course nurtures the young player within an environment of excellent technical training, concentration and music making. The most experienced young players of this group are Grade 5 and above and will have special attention with a junior masterclass and chamber music. Music making and learning will be fun as well as demanding.

The Junior Course starts at 2.30pm on Wednesday 22nd and ends at 4pm on Saturday 25th August.

The cost of the Junior Course is £380.

Main Course

A masterclass with Jan Alm and Caroline Emery kicks off this course of technique classes, quartets and ensemble work. There are lots of performance opportunities and plenty of inspirational advice to improve and build confidence. By the end of the week you will be whizzing around the bass. To be able to cope with this pathway some basic two octave scales need to be comfortable with good posture and bow control. Thumb position will be introduced.

The Main Course starts at 2.30pm on Tuesday 21st and ends at 4pm on Saturday 25th August.

The cost of the Main Course is £480.

Accelerated Group

This innovative section will allow younger players to benefit from a carefully crafted timetable alongside the Advanced Course. There will be progressive technique classes,masterclasses and performance classes. Ability to play in thumb position with some three octave scales is expected. Selection for this course will be by invitation or by submission of a CD/DVD.

The Accelerated Group starts at 2.30pm on Monday 20th and ends at 4pm on Saturday 25th August.

The cost of the Accelerated Group is £540.

Advanced Courses

The Advanced courses start at 10.00am on Monday 20th (Registration from 9.00am) and end at 4pm on Saturday 25th August.

Advanced Course

This course caters for bassists who are at least Grade 8 standard and who show serious promise on the instrument. There will be progressive technique classes and the timetable will mirror the Upper Advanced course.

Chamber music is an important focus of the week.

It will be expected that you come in good shape and attend the full course. Early booking is advisable.

The cost of the Advanced Course is £580.

Upper Advanced Course

It is an enormous pleasure to welcome back David Allen Moore, Joel Quarrington and Charles DeRamus to the Bass Club team.

Students will benefit from progressive technique sessions and small tutorial masterclasses.

There are also larger masterclasses, performance classes, chamber music, lessons and orchestral repertoire sessions.

The cost of the Upper Advanced Course is £580.
